🌽 Taco Tuesday: Why Tuesdays? And Who Started It Anyway?

Let's be honest...

If you've lived in the U.S. for more than five minutes, you've probably heard someone say:

"It's Taco Tuesday!"

Restaurants advertise it. Families plan dinner around it. Food trucks get ready for it. Your coworker somehow brings tacos to the office every single Tuesday.

But...

Why Tuesday?

Why not Taco Friday? Or Taco Saturday?

Who woke up one day and decided that tacos deserved their own day of the week?

Well... grab yourself a taco because the story is actually pretty fun.

Believe it or not... nobody really invented Taco Tuesday.

Sorry to disappoint.

There wasn't a señor sitting in a boardroom saying,

"I hereby declare Tuesdays belong to tacos."

The tradition simply... happened.

Back in the 1930s, restaurants near the U.S.-

Mexico border started running taco specials on Tuesdays. Like any good promotion, people showed up.

And they kept showing up.

Little by little, more restaurants joined in.

The phrase "Taco Tuesday" started popping up everywhere until it became part of American culture.

Nowadays, it feels like it has existed forever.

But... why Tuesday?

Here's the funny part.

Nobody actually knows for sure.

But there's a pretty good explanation.

Mondays and Tuesdays have traditionally been slower days for restaurants.

So owners got creative.

Burger places had burger specials.

Pizza places had Tuesday deals.

Wing spots found their own day.

And Mexican restaurants?

Pues...

they had tacos.

And honestly...

"Taco Tuesday" just sounds right.

Try saying "Taco Thursday."

Exactly.

It doesn't hit the same.

Somewhere along the way...

...it stopped being just a promotion.

It became a tradition.

Today, millions of families make tacos at home on Tuesdays even when there's no special, no coupon, and no discount.

It's simply what you do.

Just like pizza on Friday night.

Some traditions aren't planned.

They grow.

Here's the part we love the most.

In Mexico...

we've always found Taco Tuesday a little funny.

Not because we don't love it.

Because...

every day is taco day.

Monday?

Tacos.

Tuesday?

Más tacos.

Wednesday?

Pues claro... tacos.

Thursday?

¿Por qué no?

Friday?

Ahora sí se armó.

Saturday?

Con la familia.

Sunday?

Con un cafecito en la mañana... o unos taquitos de barbacoa.

We never really needed a Taco Tuesday.

We just needed tortillas.

And somehow...

those tortillas crossed a border.

Not just physically.

Culturally.

Today, tacos belong to everyone.

They've become part of backyard cookouts, family dinners, food trucks, baseball games, breweries, neighborhood gatherings, and late-night cravings.

That's something worth celebrating.

Because every time someone chooses tacos...

they're celebrating a little piece of Mexican culture.

Whether they realize it or not.

Tuesday starts long before lunch.

While many people are still deciding where to eat...

our team has already been making fresh nixtamal tortillas since early morning.

Some will end up at local taquerías.

Some will feed busy families after work.

Some will travel across the country to people looking for a little taste of home.

Different tables.

Different stories.

One thing in common.

A good taco always starts with a great tortilla.

Taco Tuesday may have become an American tradition...
